A KIT TO CHALLENGE THE SENSES

Airfix have released many spectacular 1/24 kits over the years, products that defined eras of modelling we all remember. Now, with the release of the Hellcat, they have created a once in a lifetime project...

After what seems like months of work, my rendition of the enormous, complex and very impressive, Airfix 1:24 F6F Hellcat, is finally finished. Here are some completed shots of the model, finished in my chosen scheme depicting an F6F-5K variant, rather than one of the armed versions offered in the kit. I would like to thank Jonathan Mock for his help with this model, all of the markings that are seen on it being sprayed through masks, custom-cut by him especially for this project. Cheers buddy!

For further details on how this model was built and painted, please see the September and December 2019 editions of Model Airplane International, using the links published below.

I'm formerly the editor in charge of Military In Scale magazine and latterly, Model Airplane International. Editing duties to one side, I'm now a full-time modelmaker with Doolittle Media, working to supply modelling articles and material for a number of their group titles, including MAI and Tamiya Model Magazine International. I'm also an avid fan of Assassin's creed, Coventry City FC and when the mood takes me, a drummer of only passing skill. Here though, you'll find what I do best: build models and occassionally, write about them!

Spencer: Looks like a well worn drone to me. That’s a very busy kit isn’t it. Outstanding job. Thanks for showing us your handy work.
