Following on from the release of my earlier aircraft titles, I am delighted to be able to announce my first diorama book in almost ten years, one that is created today, but very much harks back to a distant time of inspiration, aspiration and dreams of what was possible. This is ‘The Legacy.’
‘THE LEGACY PART ONE‘ is detailed look at the first four dioramas that were built over the last 18 months around Tamiya’s classic range of 1/35 ‘Military Miniatures’ kits, all finished using Francois Verlinden’s inspiration, ideas and techniques. For anyone that remembers those wonderful dioramas that appeared in the Tamiya catalogues of days gone by before finding their way into ‘The Verlinden’ Way collection of books, this series is the perfect homage to collect, keep and enjoy.
The first of a planned series of books, this one deals with a number of the most famous German kits, all four of them appearing in Tamiya’s Top 10 list of all-time best-sellers. The subjects covered, are as follows:
‘Pinned Down’ – featuring the Sd.Kfz. 251 Hanomag
‘Desert Raiders’ – featuring both the Panzer II Ausf.F/G and SAS Jeep
‘Once A Hunter…’ – featuring the Panther Ausf. A
‘Of No Avail 2.0’ – featuring the 88 mm Flak 36/37
Each chapter offers plenty of construction and painting tips, with easy to follow ideas that will help you to build the models and then perhaps, similar dioramas for your collection. Discussions are had regarding planning, detailing, painting, how to sculpt your own buildings and the use of these older models and their companion sets of figures and accessories. But more than that, the images, musings and techniques offered, will also be of use if you just want some ideas for other models of similar design and vintage. Or maybe, you just want to look at the pictures of the completed mnodels – it’s all there!
Here are some of the pages from this new book to give you an idea of what you can expect from it. As you can see, the book has been printed in landscape format to allow you the reader, the chance to see all of then detail that you can find without it being lost over the edges of the pages and central gutter lines. I hope that you approve of this change in design!
