5th December 2025
A day that began with such such promise weather wise. We woke up to almost blue skies, but by early afternoon the sky turned distinctly dark as the clouds rolled in, the wind picked up and the rain began to tumble down. Such was the change in the elements it felt dark almost an hour early. Bleak.
Despite the weather and my less than lightened mood (have I mentioned how much I dislike this time of year?) I managed to completed quite a chunk of the ‘109. I’d already applied the decals, so applied a nice smooth layer of VMS to smooth everything out. And smooth it, it did! I love the way that VMS works so effortlessly, a single ‘wet’ coat being all you need to make any decal look painted on. It’s almost like talent in a bottle, which certainly helps when you can be as hamfisted as I!

As it stands the fuselage is now all painted and decalled, with the wings being assembled and the undersides painted in a particularly fetching shade of light blue. With only the upper surfaces to paint before applying the decals, the wings should be finished this weekend. Of course everything will be slowed down by the pile of separate control surfaces that all need to be painted and then fixed in place, but I’m hopeful of further progress on the way to a completed model at the start of next week…
See you tomorrow.

Your 109 looks amazing, Mr. Pollard!

This is coming along very well, and the kit is beautiful to boot. As I am in the colonies, I have a question about VMS – is this a brand name for a clear varnish? And if so, is it available over here in the asylum…..?

No shipping to the US directly, but you can get it here. I’ve bought paints from this site and will again – maybe not until the weather warms up a bit. Shipping to Vermont gets a bit cold!
