1:72 Academy Models Showcase US Navy

ANOTHER BIG CAT VISITS THE DISPLAY CASE…

With the release of Tamiya's 1/48 wunderkit of the F-14, it only seemed fair that fans of 1/72 should get in on the action. Thanks to Academy they now can, as this progressive manufacturer releases a stunning replica of their own...

Hello everyone!

Here’s another of my latest builds, Academy’s superb 1:72 F-14A Tomcat. Arriving only last week, this was one of those projects for work that needed to be built very quickly, with only around 5 days to get it all done. With such a tight deadline, it was really rushed, but even so, I’ve tried to capture as closely as possible how this aircraft looked in service with VF-32 ‘Swordsmen’ during Operation Desert Shield and then Operation Desert Storm, including its patchy, weathered finish (despite being a CAG aircraft, 162701, was well-used…). The model is built from the box, with decals coming from Furball’s sheet, FBDS7201, available from Hannants.

I hope you like it!

WITH THANKS!

To Andy Hills at Antics Model Shop in Bristol who kindly supplied the kit that you see here. For further information on the shop and Antics Online, please visit their website at:

I'm formerly the editor in charge of Military In Scale magazine and latterly, Model Airplane International. Editing duties to one side, I'm now a full-time modelmaker with Doolittle Media, working to supply modelling articles and material for a number of their group titles, including MAI and Tamiya Model Magazine International. I'm also an avid fan of Assassin's creed, Coventry City FC and when the mood takes me, a drummer of only passing skill. Here though, you'll find what I do best: build models and occassionally, write about them!
