1:32 Airbrush Kits, Reviews 'n' Builds Showcase Wingnut Wings WWI

THE FLYING TIN SHED

A very enjoyable kit, an unusual aircraft and a challenging finish. Is this the perfect aircraft modelling project?

IMG_4700Well, after a few weeks of very enjoyable work, my version of the Wingnut Wings 1:32 Junkers D.1 is now complete. As you can see I’ve gone for the prototype scheme, with it’s natural metal finish rather than one of the camouflaged aircraft, electing to leave off some of the markings, the explanation for which will be seen once the diorama that this model will live in, is completed over the next month or so.

This is a truly lovely kit and I’ve enjoyed every single minute that I’ve spent working on it – I hope that you like it as well!

I'm formerly the editor in charge of Military In Scale magazine and latterly, Model Airplane International. Editing duties to one side, I'm now a full-time modelmaker with Doolittle Media, working to supply modelling articles and material for a number of their group titles, including MAI and Tamiya Model Magazine International. I'm also an avid fan of Assassin's creed, Coventry City FC and when the mood takes me, a drummer of only passing skill. Here though, you'll find what I do best: build models and occassionally, write about them!

  3. Hi Spencer, another little masterpiece, I’m intrigued about the decals in this kit and being applied to the corrugated surface, did you come up with a technique? I’d be interested to know. Regards Alan F. Smith

    • Hi Alan – I didn’t! The decals proved a real snag and despite repeated applications of solutions, I wasnt happy with them. Those on the fuselage are almost okay – those on the wings were removed and the wings repainted. You would be far better off trying to airbrush them on…
