I have no memory at all of when this kit was assembled, or why! I’ve certainly not had any need over the years to build this model. More than that though, why would I have built the trailer before the tractor? The answer to both of these questions is I have no idea.

I’d like to think that despite the industrial quantities of kits I have in my loft, I have a reasonable handle on what’s up there and in the main, what I’ve started and what are left untouched. Yeah, I’m fairly certain I know what’s what. That is until I find out that I don’t!

If you’ve been keeping up with the nonsense on this page of late, you will know that I planned – loosely – to at least attempt to build a truck over the Christmas holidays. It’s not a particularly concrete plan (there being far too many other interesting activities to enjoy away from my studio, to be tied-down to one that keeps me in there against my will) but it was at least in mind if not entirely spirit. So off up into the loft I went hoping to find a few kits I knew I had, all gloriously truck and trailer shaped…

Despite almost putting my back out shifting boxes that were in the way of where I figured the kits had been squirrelled way, I found what I was looking for, an Italeri DAF 95 lorry with covered truck bed and then a Renault 356 Berliet tractor, and separate Tecnokar trailer with 20ft ISO container. All, I figured would be suitable candidates for a relaxing build or two and though I was sure I wouldn’t get anywhere near completing them over the Christmas break, I brought them all down to take a peak inside their rather shabby boxes to formulate a plan of action.
The two trucks were of course the first port of call, their design and bright colours being an obviously attractive pull for a beginner such as I. Having spent a while looking at each one I concluded that I would slowly build all three, weather the results and see if I could come up with something at least approximating reality (I know literally nothing about trucks other than I like them and think they look cool on the road). And then I looked inside the trailer box…

Lifting the lid, I was greeted with a half-built kit! The chassis was all-but done, the wheels had been assembled and some of the smaller parts had been clipped away. Nothing unusual in all of the I am sure you will agree. But here’s the rub: I have no memory at all of when this kit was assembled, or why! I’ve certainly not had any need over the years to build this model. More than that though, why would I have built the trailer before the tractor? The answer to both of these questions is I have no idea.

Finding a kit half built with no idea as to why, has made me wonder how many more kits like that are up there. I’m sure there must be a few, but other than going through everything ( yeah right, not doing that!) I will just have to wait until the next time I choose a new project and discover, by accident, that my work is half-done before I start!
See you tomorrow.

sadly(?), I’ve at least 15 models at various stages of completion. 2 I started back in the 80s, iirc I spilt some glue and managed to put a fingerprint on a turret, so started another and did the same thing! The rest are mostly whatifs that ive stalled on, mostly at the paint/weathering stage and some where I kinda lost my way on what I wanted and I’ve 2 or 3 Gundam that several years ago I decided to strip and repaint…I got halfway!
lack of time is my excuse for not completing them, but thats only partly true, tbh. Its as though im scared to actually finish one! My plan is to, hopefully, actually tidy the shed, keep it tidy and finish everything before I start yet another model!
