A MODELMAKER’S LIFE: HOSPITAL CHECKUPS AND A DAY IN THE SUN…

Bridgnorth is a stunning place to visit - especially in the blazing summer sun...

Despite only living 30 minutes from Bridgnorth, with have only ever been there in passing, so today we went for the tourist option, using the stunning weather to get the best from this historically significant town.

15th August 2025

A day that began with a visit to the hospital for a scan to see why I’d seen increased enzyme levels from my liver during a recent blood test. Thankfully, the scan showed up nothing untoward at all, leading them to conclude it might be medication changes rather than anything nefarious. A slightly fatty liver will need a few lifestyle changes to bring everything back in line, but other than that, everything looks tickety boo, including my kidney sand my pancreas. That’s a relief!

Having scheduled in the hospital checks, I decided to spend the rest of the day with Liz, initially to have a walk around the grounds of Dudmaston Hall and then when that was found to be closed, around Bridgnorth, on the banks of the River Severn.

Despite only living 30 minutes from Bridgnorth, we have only ever been there in passing, so today we went for the tourist option, using the stunning weather to get the best from this historically significant town. From the coffee shop that’s now part of a pastor’s house built in 1580, through the 12th Century castle that was demolished during the English Civil War and on to the glorious walks along the river, this is a truly stunning part of the county in which we live and a perfect place to spend a day out. And yes, we did ride the cliff railway! I told you we went for the tourist option!

Here are just a few of the pictures I took during our visit. I hope you like seeing them as much as I enjoyed taking them this morning.

See you tomorrow.

I'm formerly the editor in charge of Military In Scale magazine and latterly, Model Airplane International. Editing duties to one side, I'm now a full-time modelmaker with Doolittle Media, working to supply modelling articles and material for a number of their group titles, including MAI and Tamiya Model Magazine International. I'm also an avid fan of Assassin's creed, Coventry City FC and when the mood takes me, a drummer of only passing skill. Here though, you'll find what I do best: build models and occassionally, write about them!

We seem to be on a parallel path…..just on Wednesday I saw my urologist, who has been treating my prostate cancer for some 17 years. I was diagnosed in 2004, survived a really botched operation (lost 16 units of blood on the table) and unsuccessful radiation treatment (I answer to the name “Lucky”)….. My doc has kept me going with good hormone treatment, and the latest test showed the PSA rising faster than it has in the past, so some concern to me. He said it was the normal reaction to the intermittent hormone protocol I am on now, and mentioned that I am 84. I replied that’s true, but Mom went to 99. and her mother went to 97. He then said he didn’t see any reason why I couldn’t do the same, which I found enormously encouraging….. So we both press on.
