Much has been said and written about the new Airfix TR.9, most of that discourse being about the uptick in levels of finesse and the way that Airfix has felt with the panel lines and other surface features, particularly the rivets. I have to say that much of that praise is warranted.

An earlier than normal update today as we are off to Birmingham this afternoon to watch one of ELO’s final UK shows, this evening. Having seen them in the past, I have to say how excited I am to see them again, excitement tempered slightly by that realisation that this will be our last chance to see Jeff Lynne and his band in full flow. Best make the most of it, eh?
It’s definitely been a weekend of music shows in the UK. Of course the major talking point for many is the start of the Oasis tour, with their first show in Cardiff. But a huge mention has to be made for the final Black Sabbath concert that took place last night at Villa Park, Birmingham. Drawing to a close a stunning a stunning career that has spanned 50 years, seeing so many of rock’s royalty all in one place too celebrate this, was a sight to behold on the TV – it must have been stunning to have been there in person!

In anticipation of tonight’s show, I’ve been able to grab some time at the bench to complete the Spitfire TR.9’s cockpit and then assemble the airframe. To all intents and purposes, this sees the model ready for painting, all bar a few seams that need to be cleaned up. So far, this model has been an absolute joy to build, and despite my rather flat mood over the last few days, I’ve really enjoyed putting it together.

Much has been said and written about the new Airfix TR.9, most of that discourse being about the uptick in levels of finesse and the way that Airfix has felt with the panel lines and other surface features, particularly the rivets. I have to say that much of that praise is warranted. Set against Eduard’s much-vaunted collection of kits, this one will happily sit alongside them on a shelf, showing perhaps at last, just how far Airfix and their designers have come. Though I’m building the TR.9 at the moment, the kit is the basis of the upcoming Mk.IX as well, so I am sure that that will be every bit as well-received.
So, my day is done and I can have lunch before we leave for the show. The week ahead is likely to be a bit fragmented as I have the hall to decorate alongside finishing the Spitfire and then painting the F-35C for Marcus. I will of course keep you informed and bring you any progress, as and when I make it!
See you tomorrow.

ELO, fantastic group. It’s amazing how many people and groups Jefferson Lynn has worked with, produced, etc. Jeff is a true powerhouse in the music. I was fortunate enough to see them in their beginnings, does anyone remember Fire on High being used by CBS for their Wild World of Sports. Then PBS in the US did a 2 hour special featuring them live, outdoors, massive crowd, can’t recall where I England, the attendance blew away any US stadium show.
You’re an extremely lucky duck.

I can remember buying Out of the blue when it first came out. Great album. Heck i can also remember The Move and Wizard. Darn that ages me. As to Black Sabbath after all the booze and drugs I’m surprised that Ozzy has survived albeit i know he has stages of parkinson’s
