My latest modelling guide takes a detailed look at the SEPECAT Jaguar, or more specifically, the brand-new Airfix kit of this classic Cold War aircraft.
This book is a very different beast from those that I have published before. This one, rather than being a story of how I built a model written in past tense once the model is complete, is a rolling day-to-day diary of this model’s journey from opening the box, through to final completion.
Throughout the contents, you will find those days described in detail, revealing not only the shots I took of the model being built, detailed and painted, but also my thoughts on every aspect of that involved journey. As such, there are plenty of positive thoughts on my project, but you will also read about days when things didn’t go according to plan, where mistakes were made and confusion, an ever-present part of this project, reigned supreme!
This book though is no technical manual, it’s simply a description of how I built a replica of Jaguar XZ118 ‘BUSTER GONAD” as seem during OP Granby.
From the off, I wanted it to be a filled with the kinds of information that I loved back in the day, crammed with bright pictures sharp ideas and a pleasing model. It is not a nuts and bolts dissertation into the minutiae of the Jaguar and its workings. What it is though, is detailed walk through a project that reveals the ups and downs that I experienced, as I tried to build the best model of XZ118 that I could. From basic assembly, through detailing and on to how I replicated that weathered finish, no stone is left unturned.

Hard to believe this is your first Jaguar build you being a cold war era fan… mine was goining to be a 2 Sqn recce aircraft from RAF Germany but could change to a desert cat… or perhaps I need 2!
