23rd March 2025
Over the last few months, my wife and I have spent a great deal of time outdoors, walking, chatting and enjoying our surroundings and each other’s company.
This weekend we’ve been up in the Peak District with friends, an incredibly beautiful national park that allows plenty of fresh air and some of the finest scenery and history that the UK has to offer.

Walking, that simple pleasure that we all can enjoy with little expense or planning, really helps to centre my thoughts in a way that no other activity does. I just love being outside and when that also includes the exploration of such historical villages as Eyam, the site of a heartbreaking story of sacrifice during the plague of 1665/66, I can’t imagine being without these periods of relaxation away from the day job.

Tomorrow I’ll be back home and back at the bench. Thanks to the last few weeks of time away I’m now feeling positive about future projects and looking forward to the rest of 2025. Many of those plans have already been discussed on here, some have not, but all are now in my thoughts as Sunday night and the prospect of a curry with friends, moves into Monday morning and my return to modelmaking and writing.
I look forward to more trips away and the opportunity to spend time with family and friends I love. Perhaps that’s what holidays really teach us and why we all need that period of reflection once in a while. Long may it continue. Now, what’s next on the bench? Only time will tell…
See you tomorrow.

What a great way to recharge the emotional batteries Spence!
