As I sit here writing this I’m reminded that time is indeed passing by and I still have a lengthy list of projects I would like to complete before age catches up with me one final time.
21st March 2025
With my thoughts turning increasingly towards a new collection of Legacy dioramas, I’ve been once again digging out the Verlinden Way books to see how the juices flow and in what direction I am likely to take some of the upcoming set-pieces.

As fun as it was to once again pore through the contents of these well-thumbed books, it did rather set me back on my heels when I realised that one of the collection, Volume V, was 40 years old! Volume 5! There were four earlier yearly titles before that, meaning I had been collecting these books for well over two thirds of my life! Where have those 45 years gone?!
Though it feels like only yesterday that I first handled one of the Verlinden Way titles (oddly, Vol.2…) much water has flowed under the bridge since then. Over those four and half decades, I’ve pretty much built models from every genre imaginable, with only maritime subjects shamefully absent from my repertoire.
Of course much of that has been driven by professional responsibilities. Beginning in 1992, my career, initially part-time and then full time from 1997 has allowed me the fabulous opportunity to build a huge variety of wonderful kits and models which I may not have done, had I had a day job that only allowed a few hours of bench time each evening.
As I sit here writing this I’m reminded that time is indeed passing by and I still have a lengthy list of projects I would like to complete before age catches up with me one final time. Quoting my good friend Jonathan Mock, it really is a case of if not now, when? I may not get through everything, those older kits I so love being offset by new releases that will no doubt grab the attention of the editors whose modelling needs I service each month, but I’ll give it a damned good go!
See you tomorrow.

Funny you should mention time passing by as I was just thinking that last week or for that matter every day now. Seems that I am not getting to my bench as often as I did. However I am making a concerted effort to increase my bench time. As they say some saying it and just do it.
