WELCOME TO MY TEST PAGE

This is a template page to show you some new areas that I plan to incorporate into future updates. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Over the last few days I’ve spent some time on this site to learn a little more about it’s layout, functions and how best to offer you material of interest going forward.

WELCOME TO MY TEST PAGE!

Morning everyone!

Over the last few days I’ve spent some time on this site to learn a little more about its layout, functions and how best to offer you material of interest going forward. Like anything in life, these things take time and no little confusion, so it’s been something of a struggle to wrap my aged brain around the multiplicity of areas that this site offers as a baseline, and then in addition to that, once it is upgraded and further developed.

So this morning I thought I’d post a simple update that tests out some of those newly learned areas, and then see how they functions on an actual, albeit, test post. The idea is to gauge appearance and functionality. Is the newer look working? Can you easily see images and the like? Is it easy to read and are the additional blocks giving you more material to enjoy? You will see that much of this is repeated from earlier posts: it’s simply here to allow me to understand the page better in real-time and then use you guys as guinea pigs to test it all out. As usual, you can comment on this post, below.

So here is that test update – I hope it looks okay.

THE ALL-IMPORTANT SUBSCRIBERS BUTTON!

I trialed this last week, so it’s good to see that it works! This is the way that you can be kept informed about updates that appear on this website. Yes, I add links to Facebook and Twitter pages, but this is really the best way of bypassing those platforms and bringing you straight to this page. All you have to do is drop your email address into the box and it will add you to the subscribers list. If you are already subscribed, it will confirm that for you! Well, what are you waiting for?!

PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!

THE CENTURY SERIES: AN ON-GOING COLLECTION

This will be a new format for images. Rather than cluttering up the page with individual shots, I plan to use this more up to date slideshow. This will work perfectly for galleries of completed projects. Scroll through the images to see what I mean!

TAMIYA ARCHER

Another way of presenting images. This will allow clear presentation of pictures with accompanying text. I like this way more than dropping the caption under each picture.

Tamiya’s stunning Archer, as built for Tamiya Model Magazine International

IF YOU’VE ENJOYED THIS POST, YOU MIGHT WANT TO SCROLL THOUGH SOME OF MY EARLIER UPDATES. THERE’S PLENTY MORE TO SEE!

I get the sense that visitors here see links to an individual post, but then don’t go on to look at previous work. All being well, this will reveal other areas to check-out and read, leading subscribers and first-time visitors to see this entire website as a complete resource, rather than just a collection of disparate updates.

A YEAR IN MINIATURES

My brand-new book is a glossy showcase of all of the models I built during 2022. Grab your copy, now!

PLEASE GET IN TOUCH: I’D BE DELIGHTED TO HEAR FROM YOU!

All of my updates have areas that allow you to add your own comments, ask questions, or just generally get involved. This little section will show some of those comments by visitors who have read and commented on previous posts. You might want to begin by commenting on this one!

  1. Absolutely fantastic book Spencer, congratulations. Packed with beautifully clear photographs of Spencer’s work, I can see much inspiration from these…

  2. Hi Spencer, order placed for your new book. Thanks for getting it published.

Hi Spencer, it looks good especially the image handling. One small feedback is that maybe when clicking on an image it displays it in a larger format.

I’ll take a look at that and see how the sizing is dealt with. Most images are loading as large files, but they can also be shown in their original form – I’ll look into it, certainly for be gallery shots…

Looks like you’re getting the hang of this and tweeking to work best for you and your readers, Spencer. I am subscribed so got an email letting me know you’d updated. I really liked the scroll through gallery of the century series, that worked very well as I was reading via the laptop and also checked via my phone and it swipes nicely on there too.

It is clear and responds as expected.
I would second the suggestion that it would enhance the viewing if photos could appear in a larger format, when selected.
    Great job!

I like the new look. Especially the slide show and the way you can integrate images with text. Easier to follow along when you’re describing a build or technique.

Subscription did not succeed. When I put in my valid email, it popped up and said the subscription request did not succeed because I did not put in a valid email address. Obviously I am still subscribed through wordpress, but your new system didn’t work. Tom

Other than the subscription glitch, the rest worked fine and your choices of how to display things make a whole lot of sense. Good luck with it going forward.

I'm formerly the editor in charge of Military In Scale magazine and latterly, Model Airplane International. Editing duties to one side, I'm now a full-time modelmaker with Doolittle Media, working to supply modelling articles and material for a number of their group titles, including MAI and Tamiya Model Magazine International. I'm also an avid fan of Assassin's creed, Coventry City FC and when the mood takes me, a drummer of only passing skill. Here though, you'll find what I do best: build models and occassionally, write about them!
