Another day on the Meteor. Another day where I’ve found more to enjoy.
This is definitely a kit that continues to offer more and more quality as you work on it. I’ve almost finished with the construction stages and have been bowled over by the the levels of detail that I keep being impressed by, the quality of the engineering and the overall fit. Everything, and I mean everything is exactly what you want from a kit…and then some.
The last few days has seen me dealing with the engines and cockpit, both of which are superbly detailed straight from the box. The cockpit is particularly impressive. Though I’ve ordered an ASK seat for my model (mainly because of the strap detail that ASK have modelled) it’s not really a necessary purchase, the kit seat being more than acceptable. Indeed, having also built the pilot, I think I would go down that route should I ever build another of these kits.
Engines are similarly noteworthy. Comprising a large number of small parts, the design is such that very little needs to be added to complete the picture. I may add a few structural details inside the bay walls and may find a few pipes here and there, but that’s it. Under paint and with all remaining parts in place, I think the open engine bay that I will have as part of my build, will be a real highlight.
I’m planning another day of construction and then it’s on to painting. With so much detail on show I really want to try and bring out as much as possible with both air and paint brushes. That’s where the fun will really begin, especially inside that cockpit, the black being a challenging finish that I’m looking forward to embracing.
See you tomorrow.
