A MODELMAKER’S LIFE: A CATCH UP WITH FRIENDS…

A very pleasant lunch to end the weekend.

1st February 2026

I always breathe a slight sigh of relief when January, that longest of all months, rolls into February. Spring always seems a little closer and although the weather at the moment can at very best be described as patchy we can at least dream of the warmer days to come.

Today we travelled over in to Derbyshire to meet up with friends who Liz has known since her college days. Living so far apart we only meet up once a year to have a meal and catch up on the news. As usual, the Mercia Marina was our port of call, ready to have Sunday lunch, a few drinks and a most pleasant time together.

As I’m writing this, the weekend is rapidly coming to an end and my thoughts are turning slowly back to work. I have the Meteor to continue with, along with a couple of new Tamiya kits, Leopard and Prelude. All of that though can wait until the morning, my day of relaxation not quite at an end just yet.

See you tomorrow.

I'm formerly the editor in charge of Military In Scale magazine and latterly, Model Airplane International. Editing duties to one side, I'm now a full-time modelmaker with Doolittle Media, working to supply modelling articles and material for a number of their group titles, including MAI and Tamiya Model Magazine International. I'm also an avid fan of Assassin's creed, Coventry City FC and when the mood takes me, a drummer of only passing skill. Here though, you'll find what I do best: build models and occassionally, write about them!
