A MODELMAKER’S LIFE: BUILDING MODELS TAKES A BACKSEAT…

A day around the house with little in the way of work…

4th December 2025

With Liz still being unwell with a particularly nasty head cold, today has been about helping out around the house, rather than spending time in the workshop.

The day began with sorting out all of the rooms around our bedroom so that we could put everything back in place. Although we moved back in after the decorating last night, we still had all of the bits and pieces to return, which not only finished the room off, it allowed a degree of cleaning (something we are rather obsessed with!) and the chance to throw out some unwanted clutter. It’s all done now, which we are both happy to announce!

The rest of the day was spent shopping for food and cooking, the evening meal being a very nice mushroom risotto. I’ve mentioned before, but perhaps bears repeating, how much I enjoy cooking. Risotto is a particular favourite as it takes you away from everything as you continuously stir in stock until the rice is cooked. It all feels rather relaxing, a welcome distraction in a world where such things are hard to come by.

So that’s pretty much it for today. I’m now watching the Man Utd/West Ham game, a match between two teams I have little interest in, but which should still be fairly entertaining…

See you tomorrow.

I'm formerly the editor in charge of Military In Scale magazine and latterly, Model Airplane International. Editing duties to one side, I'm now a full-time modelmaker with Doolittle Media, working to supply modelling articles and material for a number of their group titles, including MAI and Tamiya Model Magazine International. I'm also an avid fan of Assassin's creed, Coventry City FC and when the mood takes me, a drummer of only passing skill. Here though, you'll find what I do best: build models and occassionally, write about them!
