A MODELMAKER’S LIFE: EYMET AND THE DORDOGNE…

Our holiday in France continues with some familiar sights…

11th September 2025

Despite having little in the way of settled sunny weather, we managed to take the car out today and explore some of the local French countryside.

Eymet is a small bastide town that we had visited a number of times, but still wanted to go back to. Nestled just inside the Dordogne, this beautiful collection of sandstone buildings congregated around a central square, offers much for the traveller to enjoy. From the small independent shops, through to cafes, bars and restaurants, we always find something to enjoy seeing, even if that is usually from the seats of a local cafe, coffee in hand.

Dodging the showers this afternoon, our stay was short, but perfectly enjoyable. Having been sent out to hunt and gather local bread and fruit tarts, we strolled familiar locations, as well as taking in a number of streets we had, despite our earlier visits somehow missed (I still have no idea how that had happened). In so doing, I managed to find a wonderful book shop that allowed the purchase of a couple of aviation titles for the princely sum of €7! Not bad for two Osprey books that I was missing from my collection!

Here you can find some highlights from our time in Eymet this afternoon. I hope you enjoy seeing the pictures, as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Oh and those fruit tarts? Delicious.

See you tomorrow.

I'm formerly the editor in charge of Military In Scale magazine and latterly, Model Airplane International. Editing duties to one side, I'm now a full-time modelmaker with Doolittle Media, working to supply modelling articles and material for a number of their group titles, including MAI and Tamiya Model Magazine International. I'm also an avid fan of Assassin's creed, Coventry City FC and when the mood takes me, a drummer of only passing skill. Here though, you'll find what I do best: build models and occassionally, write about them!

Shame about the weather but better than the usual 36 + degrees of the previous months typical of the area . Enjoy the rest of your hols and safe journey back . All the best.
