10th September 2025
A day of travel from Bristol to France, that started off in sunshine and ended in some of the worst rain I’ve seen for some time.
It perhaps wouldn’t have been so bad if we were anywhere else, but picking up a hire car as the heavens opened, was not that much fun for us as we waited out in the open and for the poor lady who did the handover, who was equally soaked and unable to operate the iPad that had by now, seen more water than its operating system could reasonably deal with.
So, car now in hand, we drove the 50 minutes across country to our accommodation for the next five days. I have to say that I love driving in France. The roads are almost always empty, so despite the rain that dampened our spirits today, the scenery, peppered with gorgeous vineyards, chateaus and sunflower decorated fields, was as beguiling as ever.
Having had an early start this morning, I’m now typing this very late into the evening, so I’m looking forward to a good night’s sleep before our first full day in the morning. Weather doesn’t look to be that great if the forecast is to be believed, but that’s okay. A trip out to the local bakery, a glass or two of wine and time catching up with some reading, will likely raise the spirits above anything dampened by grey skies and the possibility of more rain.
So that’s it for today. Wherever you are have a lovely rest of your day and I will see you tomorrow.
