Whatever I do with them, it’s good to have some new additions to my collection of vintage Verlinden sets, especially ones that are so close to the beginning of his story in the history of this great hobby of ours.

As mentioned yesterday I’m currently building the new Tamiya M-36. I also mentioned that I was slightly unhappy with my decision to complete the hull racks with a full complement of track grousers. Well today, I completed assembly there or thereabouts and in a fit of pique, removed some of the grousers which I will replace with some jerry can stowage in the morning. I doubt anyone will be surprised by that decision, least of all me. You will know by now I am sure, that I just cannot leave anything alone once I decide that I don’t like something, even if that dislike is mild and inconsequential in nature…
Anyhoo.

As part of my build, I’ve decided to stow the model, and add a few more figures. Given that this is a Tamiya kit and it is destined for TMMI, I figured it would be fun to do both using Tamiya items, so trundled over to Kingkit to pick up the necessary sets, along with some Olive Drab paint. As all of the items were shown as in stock, this would be a quick visit; tell ‘em what I needed, wait for the items to be brought to me, pay and leave. Well, that was the plan…

It was whilst waiting that I spied a pile of bits and pieces, decals mainly, that looked to be interesting. I’m a sucker for Modeldecals, so couldn’t resist thumbing through those, but moved on, feeling that I had enough the things and those I already owned, I hadn’t used. It was at that point I noticed a couple of Verlinden road sign sets. These were not from the VP range. One was DCS, the other from his very early Modelworld collection, a range I’d heard of, but never seen. I had to have them.

So now I am the proud owner of two new road sign sets one of which is dated 1978, the other being earlier even than that. I’d call that a result! I have no specific plans for either set, though I’m sure that the later one will come in useful when I replicate his little 2cm Flak diorama over the next few months. One of those signs in definitely that scene, so that adds a layer of accuracy, the other two that feature, being likely candidates for replication using other means. Whatever I do with them, it’s good to have some new additions to my collection of vintage Verlinden sets, especially ones that are so close to the beginning of his story in the history of this great hobby of ours.
See you tomorrow.

Great stuff Spencer. Yeah if you can do a little change it makes you feel good.
