A MODELMAKER’S LIFE: SUNSHINE AND GARDENING…

A chance for some time in the fresh air, was just what the doctor ordered!

Though hardly a natural gardener, I enjoy it when I get going, finding the work such as it is, a nice change of pace from sitting at my desk all day, head down.

25th July 2025

Having spent what feels like weeks within the confines of my small study, today was a chance to escape, enjoy the sunshine and finish off our garden. With family over tomorrow for a get-together before my brother returns to Australia on Monday, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to complete what we’d started earlier in the summer so that we can all enjoy it – weather permitting – tomorrow afternoon.

Though hardly a natural gardener, I enjoy it when I get going, finding the work such as it is, a nice change of pace from sitting at my desk all day, head down. This afternoon, we spent a few hours mowing the lawn and then potting some new plants that we hope will survive longer than the last ones! Those were planted at the height of the hot weather and despite watering them and where necessary, placing them in the shade, almost half of what we bought died within a month of them being in the garden. Not good!

So the garden is now done and we are able to relax ready for tomorrow’s gathering. We obviously still have the food to do, as well as grabbing some drinks for everyone, but that should be easily sorted in the morning.

Next week, after what I admit has been a rather drab period of updates on here, I hope to be back to offering more interesting updates each day. It’s been a real trial over the last two months to keep this page flowing along, with so little in the way of varied content, so I hope you are all not too bored with it! I have a few new plans to make this page a place you will want to visit, including some subscriber-only content that I trust you will enjoy. I just have to find the time to do it!

So with that, I’m off for a shower and then a pint with friends. Have a great evening, everyone, and I will see you tomorrow.

I'm formerly the editor in charge of Military In Scale magazine and latterly, Model Airplane International. Editing duties to one side, I'm now a full-time modelmaker with Doolittle Media, working to supply modelling articles and material for a number of their group titles, including MAI and Tamiya Model Magazine International. I'm also an avid fan of Assassin's creed, Coventry City FC and when the mood takes me, a drummer of only passing skill. Here though, you'll find what I do best: build models and occassionally, write about them!

Humans need to get outside and into the Sunshine and Fresh Air occasionally, it’s a health thing. I’ve been known to plant the occasional green thing from time to time and even cut the grass, though putting that extra detail into the “kit” on my bench is more fun, we have to keep up “appearances”.
