27th May 2025
Today has been a case of must-do, as the mistakes of yesterday had to be corrected and then the façade that I’m working on, painted.
I have to say that the corrections certainly made the model look better. I’m not a big fan of making mistakes (who is..?) and even less so, having two deal with them when I think I’m moving on to more interesting stages in a build. But occasionally, you just have to deal with issues as they arise and sometimes, perhaps more often than not, those changes result in a better model. That was absolutely the case today and though this pushed back my day (I’ve just finished after 13 hours in the studio) I’m happy with the model as it is now, if not completely exhausted!
Having completed assembly, today has all been about the painting of the stonework, a job that I figured would be easy, but proved to be anything but. I had a set plan in mind, having experimented on a smaller part, but when it came to painting the actual model, I couldn’t for the life of me capture what my reference images were revealing. In fact, such was the difficulty in painting the model, it was painted five times, layer upon layer, until I was happy with the result. That’s not normal, nor is it welcome, so I’m glad that I have now broken the back of what I figured would be a difficult part of the build, but perhaps not as difficult as it turned out!
The morning will see me painting the windows and door and then – fingers crossed – spending some time weathering the Jaguar. How long the windows will take is anyone’s guess as there are five of them and each has 18 pains of glass that need to be painted and then masked, ready for the white window frames. I imagine it will be a long job…
See you tomorrow.
