With the news this week that Lukgraph Models are set to release a stunning 1/32 Grumman Duck, I was reminded that such aircraft, amphibious, rather than land based, are noticeable by their absence in my display case.
Sitting here, I’m racking my brain to remember ever building a machine capable of land and water based operations, but drawing something of a blank. I do remember working on a Revell 1/32 Arado 196 and Kitty Hawk Kingfisher, neither of which reached the finishing line (shame, as both looked to be pleasing, if not challenging to build and paint) but nothing else of note.

Maybe the appearance of the Grumman Duck will spur me on to once again consider these graceful aircraft worthy of my attention. Indeed, I have a few in my collection, though most are modified land-planes rather than dedicated designs, with aircraft such as the Tiger Moth, Super Cub, Twin Otter and Rufe, all ready to go. Speaking of the Rufe, that’s actually reminded me that the only two amphibians I definitely did complete were the Tamiya Seiran and Hasegawa Pete. So there you go, I have built some amphibians, even if that was well over 20 years ago…

See you tomorrow.

I like the float plane, especially if you’re gonna do a diorama base – you get to play with resin!
