Welcome to Part 2 of my look at Monogram’s superb collection of Cold War, Century Series Jets. In this book I will look at the F-104 Starfighter, F-105G Thunderchief and F-106 Delta Dart.
Though this is Part 2, this book deals with the kit that perhaps sparked my interest in building this collection: the stunning, F-106 Delta Dart. No kit in my personal history has captured my imagination in quite the same way as the Dart. Equal parts terrifying to construct and thrilling once complete, the Dart was a kit that I tried to build as a young boy, only failing to finish it as its idiosyncrasies came to the fore. Now, 40 years on, I’ve not only built that kit, but the entire collection. The two books that I’ve released this year, tell the story of all six projects.

SO WHY THIS COLLECTION AND WHY NOW?
In this day and age of incredible kits that modellers of all skills and ages can build, older offerings such as those seen here, tend to be forgotten. Given my love of these ancient tools and the chance for something personal that each can provide, I wanted to show that they are still worthy of our time. It also allowed me to revisit a range of kits that I had admired from afar but never really looked at in detail. I hadn’t built many Monogram kits, so when I realised that I could build a coherent collection of miniatures from this range, the scene was set to turn the clock back and see how far my skills would take me. Monogram’s Century Series was the result.
